Try Padel! Pa-what? Padel (pronounced: padél (for the pros) or paddle (for the amateurs) is a mix between tennis and squash. Because you can use the walls with padel, it is like squash. But you play it with something that reminds us of a tennis racket, the same scoring applies as with tennis, and you play two against two.
Did you know that Padel is going to be the fastest growing sport in the coming years? And it has every potential to become bigger. In southern European countries such as Spain, the sport has been one of the largest ones in the country for years. This is because Padel is a sport for all ages, it is easily accessible and easy to learn. Padel is also a great addition for most tennis clubs. So it is often possible to give it a try at your local tennis club in The Netherlands.
The best of both worlds
Why would you try Padel if you can also play tennis or play squash? What are the advantages? Well, it is easy to learn. The ball does not constantly fly away when you show off your fanatic (amateur) skills, because the course is surrounded by walls. The serving is underhand, you do not rackets with tightly pulled strings, therefore the the ball is less sensitive.
Socializing
Padel is a team sport. You play it with doubles, two against two others. You can get to know people on the court, or take a friend with you. As a dream team you can challenge others, or be wiped off the track… but at least you are in it together.
Vitamin D
“Everyone is an outdoorsman,” some say. Well that is very convenient with Padel. You can play outside all year round because your courts are paved with artificial grass. Grab some extra rays of the sun or overcome the wind in every season while you keep moving.
Even if you have some experience with squash court or played tennis on a blue, a lesson in Padel is advisable before you challenge brothers-in-law or colleagues. Luckily for you, you can go to all these locations with your OneFit membership:
